Program Overview

Federal Ministry of Health is embarking a flagship initiative to bridge critical competency gaps among the nursing workforce and advance the state of nursing service provision, and paving the way for quaternary care, medical tourism and internationalization of the nursing profession.

This five-month upskilling and reskilling program involves enrollment of graduate nurses (BSc.) who are currently practicing in the public tertiary care facilities (specialized hospitals), including Federal Army and Police hospitals, and recent graduates (2021-2025) who have not yet been employed in the public sector. Upon successful completion, this certificate program offers opportunities for career development and employment across the board.

Eligible candidates will be entitled to receive their monthly salary (if already employed in the public hospitals) or reasonable amount of stipend to cover meal and logistics expenses during the training period.

This initiative employs a merit based, competitive and robust assessment procedure and admission process. The specific registration and selection criteria, and application process are described below.

Eligibility Criteria

The criteria outlined below ensure the selection of candidates with the minimum requirements for the competency enhancement program. Applicants must:

EducationHold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSc Nursing) from an accredited institution.

Academic StandingApplicants should have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, with no grade below 'B' on major professional nursing courses.

LicensurePossess a valid professional nursing license to practice in Ethiopia.

Age & HealthAge less than 40 years and in a good state of health.

Employer AgreementProvide a statement of agreement from their employer to pursue the training program (if currently working).

Experience VerificationPresent verifiable evidence of work experience (if currently practicing in either public or private health facilities).

Program CommitmentDemonstrate commitment to full-time participation and successful completion of the program.

During application, applicants must complete the application form accordingly and upload all required documentation. You are expected to upload two compiled documents in PDF format (each File size - Max - 3MB):

System Availability

NB: The system will be open for a defined time period. Incomplete or late submissions shall not be considered.

Examination & Unique ID

The application ID generated by the system is Unique identification for this program – and it will serve as a username for the exam system login (will be notified later on). The system will generate a QR code and unique ID as a downloadable PDF.

Experience & Facility Selection Rules

  • For no experience, you are not expected to enter work experience in the form.
  • For those with work experience, facility selection has to be from the listed – specialized hospitals only.
  • Consent / Disclaimer: All applicants must agree to a disclaimer confirming: "all my major courses grade are B and above..."

Service Obligation Agreement

By applying for this program, you must sign a formal agreement to comply with conditions and serve in assigned facilities for at least two years upon completion.
